If you want to play
better golf, you HAVE to learn mental preparation. Make a commitment to do this. It is the
foundation of your game. You might get results the very first time you perform this
exercise. (Do not be discouraged if it takes you several times, because the breakthrough
will be worth the effort.) |

Before the course opens or after it closes, WALK (not ride) the length of 5 holes: 2 par
5's, 2 par 4's, then a par 3. The course should be close to empty as possible. Dawn or
twilight is ok. No golf clubs please. Do wear a regular golfing outfit and shoes.
Watch your pace. Notice that you control it easily as you go. Ignore all distractions if there are any such as maintenance, traffic or cart path walkers. You are to walk in a path from each tee box down the fairway and up to the green just as your ball might take if you were playing one of your very best rounds of golf there. Pay attention to all kinds of details, noticing that you feel the lack of the usual pressure to perform. Breathe deeply and relax the whole time. "What a great feeling" you think and say to yourself out loud. The feeling of this emotional calm is physical, too, and you will be able to recall this memory at a later date. Do a little self-hypnosis while you're there. Substitute one new good habit for one of your worst. Turn over a "new leaf" right there.
It sure
worked for me.............I chipped in the next day from 60 yards. I was glad for both of
us it was while we were on camera for CBS! |
